Almonds are a good source of protein and bioactive compounds such as oleic and linoleic acid. Almonds are also a nutrient-dense source of vitamin E, manganese, magnesium, copper, phosphorus, fiber and riboflavin. Studies have shown that almonds have beneficial effects on cardiovascular health, obesity-related diseases and certain cancers. Other than being widely consumed as a healthy snack, it is also used as an ingredient in many bakery and confectionary foods, such as sweets, chocolate and biscuits.
Some fruit species such as almonds, apricots and peaches were brought to Turkey thousands of years ago. Almond breeding is concentrated in the Aegean Region in our country.
